The Beauty of Small Group Work

Spiritual growth, the Cayce readings say, comes from applying spiritual values in our interactions with the people around us. The readings also suggest that a small group makes the ideal setting for doing this.

Many study group members have reported astonishing changes for the better in their lives and how they interact with each other. These changes bring people closer together, and many groups become aware of a gradually building energy of love that helps the group move forward.

Key elements of these groups include meeting to discuss spiritual ideas, selecting a spiritual “discipline” to practice between meetings, and then praying and meditating together. As the group’s members grow in understanding and in their connection with the divine, they find ways to channel this energy of love, through healing or some other way of actively serving.

Wise conversation touches the soul, and the soul grows. We lovingly invite you to try it out.

(The above information was taken verbatim from A.R.E’s brochure, “Spiritual Growth, Search for God”. The groups use two books titled, Search for God I and Search for God II that contain 24 spiritual lessons)

Glad Helpers Group

Another group that was created with the help of Edgar Cayce, is known as the Glad Helpers.  It was first created within Norfolk Study Group #1. Its purpose is to help individuals physically and mentally by attempting, through meditation, to awaken the divine within each. Edgar Cayce indicated that the spirit is the life, the mind is the builder, and the physical is the result. Therefore, no healing of any nature, mental or physical, can take place without an awakening of the inner or spiritual self. As members, we endeavor to meditate and pray for others daily. We meet together once each week to do these things as well as to read, study and move forward on the spiritual path. Anyone who wishes to join this group and is willing to make a focused effort to do these things is welcome to call or email to discuss. You may contact the current leader Jerry Lazarus lazarusj@gmail.com 919-572-9222

Following are some readings we have studied that members have found to be inspiring:

EC reading 281-35

Our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Let thy love, that has been manifested in the earth, be more and more a part of my daily life; that I may know life, health, peace and joy - that are in thee and thy promises.

Father, God, maker of heaven and earth and all that are in them, I claim sonship kinship, to thee in Christ - Jesus- who gave that what we ask in his name may be done in my body. Give, Father, that thou seest I have need of, Now.

Our Father, our God, let thy love so illumine my mind and my body that it may fulfill in the earth the purpose for which I came into being - Now.

Our Father, our God, fill my life, my mind, my body, with the love of service to others, in such measures that my body, my mind may be healed from that which would hinder in that great service of love for others.

EC reading 281-14

Be Thou merciful, O Father, in the hours of need for my body, my mind, my soul. Heal Thou my every weakness through the Christ that makes me alive in Thee.

EC reading 281-17

Let the powers that may manifest from the holding of the consciousness of the Christ-love in the earth now, quicken the spirit within thee and make thee whole - NOW.
